Abstract

In 2025, the European Resuscitation Council (ERC) published updated guidelines for newborn resuscitation and support of transition of infants at birth (Newborn Resuscitation and Support of Transition of Infants at Birth), based on the recommendations of the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR), targeted literature reviews, and expert consensus. These guidelines cover the topics of neonatal resuscitation education and training, thermoregulation, care of the umbilical cord after birth, initial assessment, assessment of patency and interventions to secure the patency of the airway, support of breathing and circulation, emergency vascular access, access to resuscitation in the resource-limited setting, resuscitation in the out-of-hospital setting, communication with parents, and contain considerations of ethical issues related to resuscitation of newborns. The aim of this review is to briefly present and analyze the most important changes compared to the previous guidelines, with an emphasis on clinically relevant changes.
